Beach View at Le Phare
Les Pins du Phare Holiday Villa is only a 400 metre walk to the beach at Le Phare. The beach is long and sandy, and even in high summer there is plenty of space for everyone to enjoy themselves. The area is famous for its good surf and safe beaches - there are life guards on duty at the main beach in the centre of La tranche sur Mer during the day time in summer.

There is a wide variety of beaches either in walking distance or only a short drive away - some with rock pools, others with huge waves for surfing or body boarding.

Windswept beach at La Tranche
Away from beaches there are many other activities available. There are pine forests nearby, criss-crossed with walking and cycle paths, along with many picnic areas. The town of La Tranche sur Mer, which is only a 15/20 minute walk along the beach, is a lively resort, with many shops and restaurants open late into the warm summer evenings. You can find restaurants for all tastes - including locally caught seafood, ice cream parlours and many small bistros offering a 'Menu du Jour' from as little as 12 Euros for a four course meal.

During the summer, La Tranche holds many festivals and musical entertainment events, along with firework displays and organised sports on the beaches. There is a busy weekly market, a small cinema, mini golf ranges, wind surfing schools and a little tourist train that can transport you around the town.

La Rochelle Harbour
The Towers at La Rochelle
Further afield, the Old Port at La Rochelle makes for a great day out. There are many restaurants and cafes lining the harbour and it's a great place to watch the world go by. In the evening the harbour comes alive with street entertainment and water festivals, along with fun fairs and many open air concerts by famous French and International artists.
Maillezais Abbey
The Marais Poitevin
For a more relaxing day out, there is the world famous Marais Poitevin, with its miles of canals and towpaths. You can hire a boat for the morning with a guide to show you around the stunningly beautiful countryside, or just relax in one of the many canal-side restaurants. The area is also noted for its many ruined abbeys, such as the one at Maillezais - where you can see re-enactments of medieval life and sound and light shows during the evenings.
